Jimmy Carter Plays the Race Card to Defend Obama

On NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams last week, former President Jimmy Carter came to President Obama’s defense of his failing health care plan by claiming that the “demonstrated animosity” directed toward the president “is based on the fact he is a black man.” Then the former president said that many white people, not only in the south but around the country, believe that “African-Americans are not qualified to lead this great country.” Playing cards. What evidence is there of that? How can he conclude that many whites do not believe blacks are qualified to govern when they were the ones responsible for electing the first black president of the United States? Even if ACORN registered to vote and transported every black man, woman and child to four different polling stations, their combined votes would not have given Obama the presidency. He had to rely on Hispanics and those white people Carter says don’t think African Americans are qualified to lead. His supposition is completely without merit. Carter is using Obama’s race as an excuse for his extremely unpopular domestic and economic policies. Carter and the far left are still in a trance since Obama’s election. Virtually nothing Obama proposes gives Carter and his liberal friends cause to wonder if his policies will be good for the country. The only criticism Obama has received from his supporters is that he hasn’t turned far enough to the left. They are disenchanted that GITMO is still open, troops are still in Iraq, and that he has abandoned a single pay style government-run health care scheme. Conservative white people don’t believe for a moment Obama is unqualified because he’s an African-American. They know he’s unqualified to govern because he’s an extreme liberal who never ran a business or large organization. He was a staff attorney for the corrupt ACORN organization. He’s on board with Bill Ayers and Rev. Jeremiah Wright. He didn’t even finish serving his first term as a U.S. senator before running for the presidency, and voted “present” over 100 times as an Illinois state senator instead of showing leadership by making a decision. It wouldn’t make any difference to white conservatives if Obama was a white man or a black woman – his unprecedented spending spree and socialistic policies are what’s driving otherwise mild mannered, apolitical white people to anger and protest in Washington. Carter doesn’t understand that these same whites would embrace a black president if he or she possessed conservative values. Has Carter forgotten that a black man, Michael Steele, is the chairman of the Republican National Committee? Would a party comprised of racists do that? Carter has offended whites who oppose Obama’s liberal agenda by suggesting the reason is that they are obviously racists. Liberals can’t comprehend that someone wouldn’t want a government expansion in their lives and health care, so therefore, they must be racists because Obama is black. President Obama could have shown leadership by telling Carter and like-minded liberals to quit stirring the pot about race and stop blaming whites for Obama’s failed policies, but he hasn’t. Thank goodness Americans can still express their grievances at public forums. Obama’s policies have sparked a nerve in millions of conservatives, moderates and independents who now realize that in return for seeing the first black man in their lifetime elected as president, they’re giving up their freedoms and receiving a socialistic, bloated government that has no limit to its appetite. A government that has spent more money in the first nine months in a new presidential administration than all other presidencies combined. Obama supporters are wondering if they’ve unwittingly created a monster by handing over both the presidency and congress to a bunch of liberals who are weakening national defense, spending beyond anyone’s wildest expectations, and can’t wait to raise their taxes. Mr. Carter is not witnessing a resurgence of racism in this country; he’s witnessing Americans fearful of losing their freedoms. Americans who won’t stand for the government takeover of their health care system, banks, corporations, energy production, and it spending another trillion dollars to “spread the wealth around.” This is not their definition of leadership, but socialism.
